An IBS food diary is a great way of determining the foods that are good for your Irritable Bowel Syndrome as well as those which are bad.
It’s such an easy way of determining the right foods for you, but it does involve a bit of work from you.
Select A Topic:
First of all you need to download your FREE copy of the Food Diary. On this sheet you will see at the top three sections.
The first is to fill in the day and week, so for example we will use Monday Week One.
In the second section you will need to fill in the date and final section, your name should you wish to show this to your doctor, nurse, dietician or nutritionist.
You will then need to fill in the table which comprises of 9 columns for your morning, lunch, supper, snacks (morning, afternoon, evening) and drinks (morning, afternoon, evening).
Below this table you will see another table, which for simplicity is divided into morning and afternoon/evening.
This is for you to fill in your symptoms you had during the day. Include as much information as possible including the type of stool, when you passed it, whether there was any blood and the color of your bowel movement.
To interpret the diary, you need to have been doing the diary for at least 2 weeks, preferably 4.
You need to look at the charts in an ordered way, looking for patterns in the foods you have been eating and whether they correlate with the symptoms that you have.
Your bowel can take up to 48 hours to digest your food, so look back over the previous 3 days to see if there are any patterns emerging.
Remember, it is not just foods during meals, but also any snacks that you may have had or drinks that you have drunk too.
If you find it difficult to interpret the findings, place them in order and show a family member, colleague or friend that you have confidence in to take a look as they may see a pattern.
Failing this, take them to your doctor, nurse, dietician or nutritionist. They will be able to take a look at it for you and help determine if there is any pattern.
Its easy to do, just fill in the details and download! You might also like a copy of my downloadable diet sheets for each type of IBS type.
